The Aga Khan Museum presents its second year of flamenco programming! This three-day festival celebrates the multi-disciplinary nature of flamenco, influenced by different cultures and forms, and its continually evolving modes of expression. With a focus on Granada, this year’s festival is programmed to compliment the special exhibition Álvaro Siza: Gateway to the Alhambra.
Learn the basics of flamenco art with Torito Media’s Justine Bayod Espoz, guitarist Pablo Giménez, and dancer/choreographer Sara Jiménez Andrés! Featuring music and dance with roots in Granada, this performance draws on the city of inspiration and plurality to showcase the power and momentum of flamenco.
Pablo Giménez has studied at the Conservatory Superior Victoria Eugenia in Granada, Spain and the Conservatory of Flamenco Guitar. He has appeared in performances worldwide at such venues as the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center in New York, the Boston Guitar Festival, and the Venta el Gallo in Granada, where he continues to perform today. Pablo is currently studying at the Conservatory Superior Rafael Orozco in Córdoba, Spain — the most prestigious conservatory for flamenco guitar in the world.
Sara Jiménez Andrés has been dancing since the age of 5, and began studying Spanish dance and flamenco professionally at the age of 10. She is a graduate of the Reina Sofía Professional Dance Conservatory and has previously performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Madrid. In 2013, Sara returned to Granada to premiere as a soloist in “Recital Flamenco” at the La Chumbera Enrique Morente Theatre. She continues to participate in the XXVIII Andrés Segovia International Festival as a seasoned flamenco dancer.
