— Rumi
Enjoy a special opportunity to participate in a Sufi whirling meditation session with members of Rumi Canada. Powerful, challenging, and ecstatic, the meditation is based on the Sufi practices of Rumi, the Mevlevi whirling dervishes, and beyond. This inner journey features silent meditation, breathing, chanting, and live music.
The Sufi whirling meditation and sama (deep listening) are led by Farzad AttarJafari, who studied Sufism under the direction of several masters.
This event takes place inside the Mongolian yurt in the Museum’s courtyard.
We suggest visitors arrive 15 minutes early as the session will begin promptly and is subject to yurt capacity. Please note that others may be meditating prior to the start of the session.
Farzad AttarJafari studied classical Sufism under the direction of several masters, has trained as a Semazen (whirling dervish), and studied a range of Sufi dances, music, and poetry. He performed across the US and Canada and lives in Toronto, where he serves the Sufi whirling dervishes community and hosts regular sessions.
Rumi Canada is known for its strong adherence to the spiritual Sufi tradition as well as for exploring new movement vocabulary that reaches deep into the soul of those present. Past performances include Inner Journey I (Small World Music Festival), Inner Journey II (Tirgan Festival), and Inner Journey III (Nuit Blanche at the Aga Khan Museum).
